Catherine’s interest in botanical art and illustration in began in 2008 with Mary
Harden at her School of Botanical Art. She has studied with several other
master teachers over the years, most often with Elaine Searle. She pursued
commercial art in college and worked for many years in Silicon Valley as a mask
layout designer, drawing computer chip masks. During a 10 year career break
at home with young children, she studied ornamental horticulture and ran a
landscape design business. Now retired, she looks forward to broadening and
deepening of her skills to better capture the elusive plant essence.
Catherine takes master classes whenever possible, participating in group
exhibits several times a year. She has been juried into an international exhibit
with ASBA, several Filoli exhibits, the Huntington in Pasadena, the Los Angeles
Arboretum Library, in St Petersburg, Russia, and in a special exhibit at the de
Young Fine Arts Museum for Bay Area artists. She has had solo exhibits at the
San Mateo Library and San Mateo City Hall.
Catherine has pieces in the Alcatraz Florilegium and in the Mt Tam Florilegium.
She is also at work on some commissions.
Catherine serves on the board of Northern California Society of Botanical Artists
as well as the national board of American Society of Botanical Artists where she
is a member of the Executive Committee and co-writes the monthly newsletter,
